Introduction By Thomas Keneally, Author of Schindler’s List

For Nick Del Calzo, a former journalist and public relations executive, documentary portraiture is his third career. While traveling to Europe in 1991 to create portraits of his own relatives in Belgium, France and Italy, he took a detour to visit Dachau, the Nazi death camp he had studied as a student. Though not Jewish, Del Calzo was compelled to document the accounts of Jews who had survived that and other killing camps. He has photographed more than 150 Holocaust survivors.

Says Del Calzo, "The day will come when the last Holocaust witness will perish and these voices will be silenced forever. My hope is that, by capturing their portraits and their messages, they can continue to inspire future generations and continuously rekindle hope for a brighter tomorrow."
